DO BABIES NEED TO SLEEP WITH A PILLOW?

At what age do babies require a pillow? And what pillow might be best for them?

NOT REALLY... BUT

The littlest ones amongst us generally don’t need a pillow, because they sleep on their backs. This is unlike adults, because we don’t solely sleep on our backs, we also sleep on our sides and even on our stomach. And that’s why we need a pillow, because our necks aren’t supported in any other sleeping position than on our back. A pillow provides that extra support. Another reason adults use pillows is to stop their partners snoring, letting them know enough is enough.

FOR WHEN THEY GROW UP

I call it a pillow purely because of its shape, but really it’s filled with the finest down quality. This makes it extremely light and airy. You might consider it more of a stuffed animal than a pillow. As my daughter grows up, we will make sure her pillow slowly grows with her, adding more filling as she needs more neck support throughout the years and ages.

MAYBE MORE OF A CUDDLE

The best sleeping position for small children is on their back, which makes a pillow unnecessary. My daughter sleeps with a pillow, and the only reason for that is because she likes it. She likes to tuck both hands under the pillow as if to cuddle it.

THE BEST SLEEPING POSITION

Our youngest ones actually don't need a pillow. At least, not in the way adults need a pillow. That's because babies sleep on their backs, and their neck doesn't need extra support. As adults, we sleep on our sides and sometimes on our stomachs. Our neck needs extra support in these positions, which is why we use a pillow.
