SLEEPING IS GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN

Unfortunately, the fountain of youth is a mythical place. But you can work on that eternal youth, by getting enough sleep, for instance! Incredible, isn't it? Maybe these benefits will convince you.

AVOIDING AND REDUCING WRINKLES

Sleep is a necessary part of the day for your body. During those 7 to 9 hours of essential rest, your body restores itself and regains energy. This also applies to your skin.

While you sleep, you produce collagen again. This is a protein in your connective tissue that gives your skin firmness and elasticity. Wrinkles appear when your skin loses collagen.

The main cause of this collagen reduction is of course old age. However, by getting enough sleep, you give your skin the chance to produce natural collagen again. Sufficient in this case means: at least 6 hours. If you sleep for 5 hours or less, you will get a drier skin with less collagen and you will see deeper wrinkles. In other words: sleep less = look older faster.

WORK ON YOUR GLOW

Haven't you noticed? After a good night's sleep, you look fresh and rested. Well, there's a reason for that. While you're sleeping, your body pushes blood to your face, among other things. Thanks to this optimal blood flow, toxins are removed and nutrients are supplied. The result: a natural glow on your face.

RENEW YOURSELF

Every 4 to 6 weeks, the epidermis renews itself through exfoliation, even though you may not even notice it. Your skin needs rest to bring that process to a successful conclusion and to get your complexion back on track. Every night for at least 4 hours, to be precise.

BUILD UP RESISTANCE

Imagine it this way: after a day of air pollution, wind, sun, cold, ... the 'barrier' of your skin breaks down little by little. So you need sleep to rebuild that barrier function. Your skin has work to do.... while you sleep!
